Get to know Radiologist Dr. Shawn Meader, who serves patients in Florida.
A talented radiologist, Dr. Meader is in practice with Florida Interventional Specialists (FIS). He practices out of Tampa General Hospital and Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Dr. Meader graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in biology and microbiology and then attended medical school at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. Following medical school, he completed an internship in general surgery at St. Louis University Hospital. After his internship, he decided to take a slightly different path and joined the US Navy to pursue an interest in diving and hyperbaric medicine and went through Navy dive school in Panama City, Florida to become a diving medical officer. On active duty for 3 years, he attained the rank of Lt. Commander, serving as squadron medical officer for Submarine Squadron Twenty in Kings Bay Georgia. Following his tour of active duty, he remained in the Naval Reserves for 5 years as the diving medical officer for Mobile Diving Salvage Unit Two at Mayport NAS in Jacksonville, Florida. After his time in the Navy, Dr. Meader completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at University of Florida in Gainesville where, in his final year, he was elected chief resident. He stayed at University of Florida to do a fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology and remained at University of Florida as faculty, accepting a position as assistant professor of radiology in the interventional department where he practiced for 3 years.
